NAIROBI, May 12 (NECJOGHA)—Youth from across the IGAD region gathered in Nairobi on Tuesday for the launch of a new coalition aimed at advancing climate action and climate‑resilient agri‑food systems.

The two‑day event, convened by ICPAC and AGRA in collaboration with the Office of the IGAD Youth Envoy, seeks to establish the IGAD Regional Youth Coalition on Climate and Climate‑Resilient Agri‑food Systems.

Organisers said the coalition will provide a platform for young people to engage in awareness creation, policy advocacy, climate‑smart agriculture, and contributions to National Adaptation Plans. Delegates from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda are participating.

Ahead of the official launch, a technical session outlined the coalition’s framework, governance structure, operational modalities, and initial work plan. Officials said these steps are critical to ensuring the coalition’s effectiveness and long‑term impact.

“Youth are the largest demographic in the IGAD region and their role in climate action is indispensable,” ICPAC noted in a statement.
